203 Home-Based Businesses That Will Make You Rich : The Complete Guide to Financing and Running a Fabulously Successful Home-Based Business

BUYER BEWARE!
Should be titled: 203 OTHER BOOKS AND THINGS YOU CAN BUY FROM TYLER HICKS TO MAKE HIM RICH!

Awful
Save your money. This book is one nonstop commercial to try to get you to buy Mr. Hicks' MANY other books & products. He comes off as cold-hearted and just out to make a buck himself.

I've bought your book - now stop selling at me!!
One or two tentative ideas hidden amongst 342 pages of adverts for more of his products. Every time I came across another "plug" for one of his "kits" or "handbooks", I believed less and less in what he had to say.
Sort of like the literary equivalent of the door-to-door insurance salesman!
If you could get past the adverts, then there is some value in the ideas and motivational messages.

Laura Lemays Web Workshop: Advanced Frontpage 97
Published in Paperback by Sams (July, 1997)
Authors: Denise Tyler and Laura Lemay
Average review score:

Not concise
The book spends a lot of your time and it's space going through exactly which menu button to hit, but misses completely on overview, concepts, and reference. It's written as though the target audience were new to computers. Very hard to find specific information without reading the whole book - a boring prospect.

This book covers more regarding Office 97 than FrontPage.
I purchased this book almost explicitly to learn about database connectivity. In that light, it did aid in my understanding of how to make Access and FrontPage97 work together. The book was a disappointment, however, since more time was devoted to how to use Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Access, and Publisher to publish to the web than how to use FrontPage 97. It's definitely NOT worth the money.

Not up to snuff
Definitely not as good as other books on the subject, such as Designing Web Pages with FrontPage 97 by Milburn & Burdman. The only section that was helpful to me was the one on Image Composer, but a lot of added html coding doesn't work. It doesn't work because she forgets html rules like putting " " in tags. That's just sloppy. Also, sometimes she has you add html (which is a pain) instead of using FP97 features that do the same thing.

DONT BUY THIS BOOK!!
I bought this book hoping it would help me through some of the missions I was having trouble with, however, the only thing it helped me do was waste my money! There really isn't anything in this book that will help anyone above what the mission briefings already tell you, so save your money. I usually like Prima strategy guides, What Happend?

Completely Unhelpful Guide
This book is just a hard copy of the mission briefings in the game. I couldn't believe something so lame would actually be published.

Disappointing book
I thought this would help guide you through some of the missions, however, it's just an exact copy of the mission briefing screens! There's nothing added, so just read your mission briefings and save your money.

203 Home Based Businesses That Will Make
Published in Hardcover by Prima Publishing ()
Author: Tyler G Hicks

To good to be true
Tyler G. Hicks has written an enthusiastic (if not a little disorganized) book that actively promotes his company's products (International Wealth Success, Inc.). Apparently, IWS is predominantly in the business of selling "information kits."

Under the chapter entitled resources, Tyler hawks books from his "Wealth Success Library." They range from 30 pages to over 219 pages, and [varie in price] And while you are shopping in the "library," don't forget to sign up for the ... "newsletter," which Tyler brings up on several occasions.

Further, the types of businesses highlighted mirror those techniques that were presented in the get-rich-quick business courses that were relentlessly hawked on late night infomercials during the 90's, with one notable exception.

None of the other get-rich-quick books out there would dare suggest becoming a child care professional (baby sitting) as a way to become rich beyond your wildest dreams. This one does. I'm serious. Just read, "Chapter 8: Provide Quality Child Care and Prosper."

The only good thing about this book is that it throws some pretty ludicrous ideas at you, so it can start the brain storming process.

If you are looking for a guide to reach financial nirvana, keep looking. This isn't it.

Cruise Secrets Exposed: The How-To Resource Guide to the Best Values in Cruise Travel
Published in Hardcover by (December, 1996)
Authors: Sharon Tyler and Matthew Wunder
Average review score:

Total JUNK - don't buy this book
One of the worst books ever writen. Not one single 'secret' of the cruising world is revealed in this book. Huge revelations include: "one should select their cruise agent much like they would their lawyer", page 64; and "by prepaying early, many cruise lines will discount their fare". Duh. Talk about exposing secrets! Be still my beating heart. This is one of those fluff books where there really is about 20 pages of information but hey use huge type and big margins. More than half of this book is simply a listing of addresses of cruise lines. I wonder if these addresses are meant to be the secrets? What a ripoff. Do yourself a favor - keep looking for a real book on cruising, but don't buy this one.

Earliest Man of America in Oregon, U.S.A.; with photographs of Paleolithic artifacts
Published in Paperback by Discovery Books (26 February, 1986)
Author: Donald E. Tyler
Average review score:

Amateur Acheologist Sells Book
From an archeologist's point of view, this is a momentous example of pseudo Pscience. Someone has picked over a lot of indian sites in Oregon and pieced together theory and fact in the tradition of the backyard rockhound that will make any archeologist squirm. Nice pictures, but like artifacts brought home from a cave in a gunny sack, not worthy science. Sorry ... finding out this was bogus. Hard to review content when there isn't any. Yes, I have credentials, studied with Roger Greene, Bion Griffin, Raymond Firth, Wm.Solheim, Tom Kirch, Ben Finney, etc.

How to Make Your Real Estate Fortune in Second Mortgages
Published in Paperback by International Wealth Success Inc. (December, 1987)
Author: Tyler Gregory Hicks
Average review score:

Out of date and of no value. Full of boiler plate.
The book is 25% a glossary and 25% a full partnership contract of very little value. Only 61 pages of 163 have any pertinent information. Apparently written by a quickie formula on how to start a business, establish contacts and work hard. Very litte meat of conducting a second mortgage business. Nothing on usary or regulations. Nothing on the mechanics of discounting or county filings, repossesion. Better buy: Smart Trust Deed Investment In California by George Coats, ISBN 0-934581-01-0

Learn to Play Guitar: An Introduction to Acoustic and Electric Guitar
Published in Library Binding by Bt Bound (October, 1999)
Authors: Louisa Somerville, Tim Pells, Cheryl Evans, and Jenny Tyler
Average review score:

Confusing and frustrating
I purchased this book to help teach my 10 year old to play. With over 30 years playing experience, I chose this book based on it's description here.

It is confusing, teaches non-traditional music reading, and completely frustrated my son.

Where are the classic Addagio 6 book series?

Making Character Bears
Published in Paperback by Sterling Publishing (December, 1999)
Author: Valerie Tyler
Average review score:

Pretty disappointing
The author's idea of a "swimmer" bear is to drape a piece of towelling on a bare bear's arm. The "gardener" bear is yet another bare bear, except that the author has purchased children's rubber boots to insert the bear's legs into. The "musician" bear is a bare bear that you have bought a small guitar or some other musical instrument for. Big deal. Didn't need to buy a book to figure out these things. Some of the "costumes" are knitted, and the author assumes that anyone reading this book knows how to knit, when it seems more likely that a bear maker would know how to sew much better and would be more interested in real costuming.

Red Baron II: The Official Strategy Guide (Secrets of the Games Series.)
Published in Paperback by Prima Publishing (February, 1998)
Authors: Chris Jensen and Melissa Tyler
Average review score:

Re-hash of the manual
This book is simply a repeat of the manual that comes with the game. Most strategy guides at least offer game-specific tips on how to play; this one doesn't even go that far. In fact, in the section entitled "Aerial Combat Tactics," the manual that comes with the game is much, much more complete. Only buy this book if you need to - as I had (my two year old destroyed my manual).
